JOB TITLE: Childcare Coordinator
SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
The Christian Neighborhood Center of Norwich, Inc., dba The Place is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Norwich, NY that serves Chenango County. The Place was founded in 1983 and has been serving Chenango County youth and young adults through an established continuum of research-based programs to prepare them for college, career, and citizenship.
The Childcare Coordinator will devote a portion of their time in the classroom supporting the implementation of curriculum, some of the time will also be spent in the role of an administrator, planning, organizing and implementing services of the childcare program, exercising independent judgment, best practices and decision-making authority as delegated, including but not limited to: following budgets, policies, procedures and proper staff training and supervision.
-Work with the Executive Director to promote the center's open houses, events and available spots and establish relationships within the community in an effort to grow enrollment and meet community needs.
-Licensing and managing an operation that follows Office of Children and Family Service regulations, establishing a positive working relationship with local OCFS licensor and local CCR&R.
-Maintaining complete child and staff records per OCFS requirements.
-Maintaining the physical space including ordering supplies and developmentally appropriate equipment, furniture, manipulatives etc per ECERs guidelines.
-Handling all aspects of staffing including the hiring of highly qualified individuals, dedicated to providing the highest level of care and customer service, to meet enrollment demands.
-Ensuring that staffing meets all OCFS requirements including, obtaining clearances, monitoring and documenting training, maintaining staff files and proper staff:child ratios.
-Utilizing our HR and communication/registration platforms appropriately and effectively in the day to day operations:
-Communicating effectively and regularly with Executive Director, keeping them abreast of daily occurrences and issues as they arise and in a timely manner, working collaboratively as a team to provide the highest quality of care, a positive working environment and to problem solve proactively.
-Establishing open, comfortable lines of communication with parents, caregivers and staff, providing resources and support where needed.
-Become an expert on DAP curriculum, ECER-s and observations and make these tools the building blocks of a high-quality early learning program that each staff person utilizes daily.
-Scheduling parent teacher conferences twice a year, providing guidance to staff and support to parents as needed.
The Childcare Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in classrooms, on a short-term basis, as needed.
Education:
To be qualified as a Center Director, a person must possess either:
(i) a bachelor's degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in early childhood, child development or a related field; one year of full-time teaching experience in a childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work; or
(ii) a New York State children's program administrator credential; one year of full-time teaching experience in a childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work; or
(iii) an Associate's degree in early childhood or related field, with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree or a New York State children's program administrator credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in a childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work; or
(iv) a child development associate credential or other office-recognized credential, with a plan of study leading to a bachelor's degree or a New York State children's program administrator credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in a childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work.

Must pass a full background check, including fingerprinting, references, SEL & SCR through NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
Must be medically fit to perform all job duties, free of communicable disease including TB and provide documentation from a licensed physician within the past year.

Position: Kids Program Assistant Teacher
Supervisor: KIDS Program Coordinator
Under the direct supervision of senior staff, the KIDS Program staff provides direct supervision of a group of children in program. The staff is responsible for the health, and welfare of youth participating in the KIDS program.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the care and leadership of youth ages 5-12
2. Assist in planning and implement developmentally appropriate activities that broaden outdoor skills and social skills
3. Create cultural experiences and stimulate youths’ curiosities and interests
4. Supervise youth during all activities
5. Attend staff meetings and trainings
6. Adhere to The Place's policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of children and staff
7. Maintain working relations with parents and other staff members
8. Assist in the maintenance of the highest standards of safety and cleanliness
9. Follow program schedule
10. Keep daily attendance
11. Work in a team environment
Requirements:

High School or GED
2. Some coursework in child development, is preferred, but not required
3. Some experience working with youth ages 5 to 12
4. CPR and First Aid certification, preferred but not initially required

Job Summary: Provides a safe, caring, and nurturing educational environment where all feel accepted, and facilitates the academic, social and emotional development of each child.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
General Responsibilities:
· Attends school functions, open houses and programs including children’s programs, and fundraising events, or as deemed necessary.
· Participates in and attends staff meetings.
· Is punctual and has regular and reliable attendance .
· Follows daily sanitation schedule posted in classroom.
· File written accident reports with duplicates in the office and children’s file.
· Keeping an ongoing record of personal classroom materials brought into school for the children’s use. All materials should be permanently marked as to ownership. A copy of the record should be kept in the office so it is clear what belongs to the school and belongs to an individual.
· Completes incident reports and informs parent of injuries as appropriate
· Creates and maintains an attractive and orderly classroom, including bulletin boards.
· Maintains confidentiality of children, parents, records and staff
· Is responsive to the needs of the children and parents of the program.
· Follows the established child discipline process which fosters positive guidance, redirection and setting fair limits.
Personal Development:
· Keep communication open with peers and parents.
· Work with all staff members in a cooperative manner.
· Trains, supervises, supports and works cooperatively with the Assistant Teacher.
· Presents oneself as a positive, professional role model and representative of the school.
· Assesses and tracks milestones of each child’s development.

Educational Responsibilities
· Develops and teaches overall developmentally appropriate curriculum including music, art and Gross motor activities.
· Provides coverage to allow the Assistant Teacher a break.
· Changes diapers/assists with toileting, as needed (at least every two hours)
· Works collaboratively with Assistant Teacher to prepare and serve food to children.
· Assists in maintaining student records and files.
· Conducts and records a daily health inspection for each child.
· Is available to parents for communication.
· Reports at least twice a month to supervisor.
· Writes daily reports to parents each day, describing work and activities
· Contributes to the school’s monthly newsletter
· Helps with at least three school events a year.
· Works collaboratively and supportively with the entire organizational community.
· Other jobs as the Administrative Team may reasonably be assigned to him/her.
· Attends and participates in continuing educational programs per state licensing requirements
· Assures the needs of each child are met including the appropriate staff/child ratio or group size as required by facility, federal and state laws.
· Demonstrates correct safety techniques and maintains at all times a safe environment indoors and outdoors, for all children and staff.
· Must be able to verify the identity of any person assuming responsibility for children, (staff, parent, surrogate).
Personal Qualities:
Must be physically able to perform the job of teacher of young children. Must have a warm, supportive attitude toward children. Must be reliable. Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program. Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance.
Education:
-Associates Degree in E.C., Child Development or related field AND 1 year experience related to caring for infants and toddlers
-OR Infant and Toddler Child Care and Education credential, Infant Toddler CDA Credential, or other office recognized credential specific to the infant/toddler developmental period AND 2 years experience related to caring for children
-OR CDA Credential AND 2 years of experience caring for children, one on which must be related to caring for infants or toddlers
-OR 9 college credits in E.C., Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to an Infant and Toddler Child Care and Education credential, or Infant Toddler CDA credential, or other office recognized credential specific to the infant/toddler developmental period, or an Associates
-Degree in E.C, Child Development or a related field AND 2 years experience related to caring for children, one of which must be related to working with infants or toddlers.
